Welcome
Welcome to the Town of Bruderheim, "an Oasis in the Industrial Heartland".
We are currently going through a period of growth not seen in many years. Activity in
Alberta's Industrial Heartland has helped our residential base significantly. The Town is
striving to ensure the quality of life we offer to current and potential new residents will
make Bruderheim their Community of Choice.
A message from Mayor Lambert can be viewed here.
The Town has just recently undergone a Strategic Planning Project called Vision 2020.
This was an extremely important tool that will be used to create the Community our
residents want to see in the future. Please have a look at Vision 2020 here Vision 2020.
If you want to see what is currently going on in Bruderheim please checkout our current
Newsletter. We hope the information contained within this profile is useful. If additional
information is required, please contact our the town office at 780.796.3731.
Area Overview
The area around Bruderheim was first settled in 1894, when a colony of German
Moravians homesteaded here. Under the leadership of Andreas Lilge, they organized the
first congregation of the Moravian Church in western Canada, naming it Bruderheim -
Home of the Bretheren [named after the three Lilge brothers]. Visit the Bruderheim
Moravian Church website at www.connect.ab.ca/~bmc
In 1974, Bruderheim was an inconspicuous village of about 350 people in a peaceful
farming area. In the period since then the population has more than tripled, brought
about by the growth of petro-chemical plants in the large industrial area immediately
west of town. Today, Bruderheim is a modern and prosperous farming centre with a
population of 1,203 people. It is known worldwide for its prize livestock and grain.
Climate
The Town is always blessed with slightly nicer weather than the surrounding areas.
Typically Bruderheim follows the same patterns as the greater Edmonton area.
