Welcome
Welcome to our Community
On behalf of the Town of Chestermere and its residents, I wish to take this opportunity to extend you an invitation to see our community.
Imagine the peaceful sounds of water lapping against the shore, with the sun on your face while you enjoy a fabulous picnic from a nearby restaurant. Or, listen to the kids cheering as a goal is scored in a vigorous game of pond hockey while you sip a hot chocolate with steam rising from the mug. Now open your eyes and realize that you are in the Town of Chestermere!
Year 'round outdoor activities on our lake are only one of the aspects that our community has to offer. Take a bike ride with your family along any of our regional pathways that connect us to the big city and our rural neighbours. Come for a mouthwatering brunch or a peaceful lunch at one of our many local restaurants. Festivals celebrating Winter and Water bring in visitors from all areas.
Looking to expand or start your business? Chestermere is a new town that has grown at unprecidented rates and is a relatively untapped market for all types of businesses and industry. With close proximity to Calgary and shipping routes and a lower tax rate, Chestermere is the obvious choice.
The Town of Chestermere offers a quiet, safe place to live. Families have schools that are close and a recreational centre with many programs; our senior's group is a lively bunch who travel and actively participate in the community. We also have many different youth groups and offer a home to Camp Chestermere - a Christian based youth organization.
With all that Chestermere has to offer, we ask you: what are you waiting for? Chestermere is a home for all seasons - make it yours!
Sincerely,
Patricia Matthews
Mayor
Area Overview
The Town of Chestermere's beginning was in approximately 1884 when men of vision recognized the value of the body of water as a source for an irrigation system. These early pioneers had visions of what irrigation would mean to the lives of the people. The building of the headwork’s of an irrigation water supply was the birth of Chestermere Lake.
Chestermere was incorporated as a town on March 1, 1993. The Town has grown at a rate of 20% or more over the past 5 years with a population of 11,262 in 2007. Chestermere's attractions include a 750 acre lake and 18 hole golf course as well as a number of recreational opportunities. These are matched only by the prairie sunrises and sunsets.
