Area Overview
The Municipality of Crowsnest Pass was established by the amalgamation of five communities - Bellevue, Hillcrest, Frank, Blairmore and Coleman as of January 1, 1979.
The natural beauty of this area makes it one of the best big-game hunting districts in Canada with Rocky Mountain bighorn sheep, moose, elk, deer, grizzly bear and black bear making their natural habitats here.
The "Pass" also has some of the best fishing streams in Alberta with an abundance of Rainbow and Cutthroat.
The area's resources offer above average opportunity for tourist facilities, with abundant motels, campgrounds, trails, and sight seeing trips, all geared to make the visitor's stay a memorable occasion.
Location
The Crowsnest Pass is located in the southwest corner of Alberta alongHighway #3.The Municipality of Crowsnest Pass is 269 km [167 miles] southwest of Calgary and 144 km [89 miles] west of Lethbridge.
Economic Base
In 1999 our economy is based on tourism, coal mining (located in BC), lumber and value added lumber products, mineral extraction and gas processing.

Water Supply
Water is supplied by wells and the Crowsnest River. Three water treatment plants are used. The reservoir capacity for treated water is 9000 cubic metres [317,835 gallons]. The design capacity is 20,033 cubic metres [707,465 gallons].
The pumping capacity is 6,825,000 litres [1,5000,000 gallons] per day. The pressure varies with each distribution system.
Waste Management
There are 3 treatment plants, 2 secondary oxidation ditches and 1 extended aeration lagoon.
Residential and commercial garbage is collected weekly. Industrial is collected as needed.
