Welcome to the Town of Gibbons! As Mayor, it is my pleasure to welcome all prospective residents, along with commercial and industrial development.
The Town of Gibbons -- "Living at its Best" is strategically located at the junction of Highways 28 and 28 A along the banks of the Sturgeon River, only minutes from Alberta's Industrial Heartland. We offer a rural atmosphere with an urban setting, with access to the facilites of a large city within an easy commute. This provides a perfect back drop for family living. Our community places great pride on being a safe, clean and friendly place in which to raise families and enjoy an outstanding quality of life.
Our seven elected members of Council are committed to delivering good government, activiely promoting the Town's vision of a vibrant, innovative, safe, sustainable and family-oriented community with great people, great opportunities and a great community!

Area Overview
Gibbons offers a variety of amenities for small town living and, within an easy commuting distance to all the facilities of a large city. Gibbons is located just five minutes northeast of the corporate limits of the City of Edmonton, and approximately 30 minutes from downtown Edmonton.
The current population of Gibbons is 2848. The community is very family oriented, with the majority of the population in the 25 to 40 age group.
Situated along the Sturgeon River, the Town is located in a beautiful natural setting. The river valley provides ample opportunities to relax and enjoy the natural beauty of the area.
In addition, the Town boasts a wide range of excellent indoor and outdoor recreational facilities.

The commercial core provides basic needs such as food, pharmaceutical, banking, vehicle service, medical, dental, chiropractic, legal and other personal service requirements.
Location
The Town of Gibbons is located in the Sturgeon County, just north of Edmonton, Alberta at the junction of Highway 28 and Highway 28A. Gibbons is within easy commuting distance to Edmonton and Fort Saskatchewan as well as several industrial areas in the surrounding rural area.

Economic Base
Gibbons is mainly a residential community with basic service required for daily living. The majority of residents commute to work in Edmonton, Fort Saskatchewan or the surrounding industrial areas and the Alberta Industrial Heartland only minutes away.
Economic Facts
Degussa Canada's Hydrogen Peroxide plant is located six miles east of Gibbons.
Agrium Redwater Plant is located ten miles east of Gibbons. Agrium is the largest fertilizer producer in Canada. The Redwater Plant ships fertilizer within Canada. The Northwestern United States and some off shore destinations.

Water Supply
Gibbons receives its water supply from Edmonton, giving the system the capability of meeting the requirements of a population of over 10,000 persons.
Waste Management
Gibbons is tied into the Regional Sewage Treatment facility, which will meet the Town's requirements for the distant future.
Solid Waste
The Town has an automated waste pickup system and curbside recycling. For additional refuse, the Town of Gibbons is a member of the Roseridge Waste Management Services Commission.

Commercial and air freight service is available from Edmonton International Airport.
Rail Service
Canadian National Railways connects Gibbons with the Grand Centre - Cold Lake area.
Highways
Highways 28, 28A and 15 provide Gibbons with access to Edmonton or Fort Saskatchewan. The northward extension of Highway 28 connects Gibbons with
Redwater, Smoky Lake, Bonnyville, Grand Centre and Cold Lake. Highways 46 and 63 provide access into Boyle and Fort McMurray.

Recreation

The river valley around Gibbons is fully developed with structured pathways, benches, picnic area, viewing point and an adventure playground.
Recreation facilities in town include an arena, curling rink, tennis courts, outdoor rink, ball diamonds, soccer fields, basketball courts, skateboard park
and a fishing pond that is stocked with trout annually.

In 2008, the Gibbons Spray was opened thanks to dedicated volunteers.
The Goose Hummock Golf Resort, a world-class 18-hole course, is located a mere 2 miles north of Gibbons.
Community Organizations
There are also over 70 volunteer community organizations ranging from the playschool group to the senior citizens club.

- February 14th – Family Day Celebration - Pancake breakfast and many different activities throughout the day followed by a family dance.
- February 15th- Family Day Free Skate - 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM Gibbons Arena.
- May 16th – Gibbons Museum Chicken Dinner & Silent Auction - Bring the family and enjoy a chicken dinner with all the fixings along with a silent auction.
- June 7-13th- Seniors Week - Join in organized games, trips, theater, and luncheon activities all week long.
- June 17 – September 16 - Gibbons Farmers Market (Gibbons Curling Club):- Fresh produce and locally grown products will be available, along with many other goods.
- July 1st – Canada Day Celebrations - Pancake breakfast, flag raising, parade, hamburgers & hot dogs, children activities all day, face painting plus other events.
- August 11th – Gibbons Museum Seniors Day - 4 buildings open for seniors to visiting, along with refreshments.
- September 11th – Gibbons Town Wide Garage Sale - Largest garage sale in the County with over 200 vendors located on the streets of Gibbons.
- November 11th – Remembrance Day Ceremonies - Wreath laying followed by food, refreshments, music, and fellowship at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch in Gibbons.
- November 19, 20 & 21nd - Saville Country Classic Junior Bonspiel - 24 top caliber teams of Junior Curlers.
- November 27th- Gibbons and area Christmas Craft Sale - many tables of local crafts for sale.
- December 3rd – Gibbons Seniors almost Christmas Dinner - and entertainment.
In 2007, the Derouin Family donated their barn to the Town and it now resides at the Museum grounds.

Gibbons is an easy commute to Edmonton with post-secondary education institutions such as the University of Alberta, Grant MacEwan Community College, Northern Alberta Institute of Technology (NAIT) and Athabasca University.
Health Care
Medical facilities consist of two medical clinics, a dental office, laboratory, chiropractic centre, massage therapy and a Alberta Health Services. The Sunflower Community Resource Program provides learning and accessing resources assistance to the community and surrounding areas. This program is a one stop information and resource centre.
Three hospitals are available with 15 miles of Gibbons.
Spruce View Manor, the Seniors Lodge, has the capacity to house 44 residents, while Pinecrest Gardens contains 18 self contained apartments.

Gibbons is served by a 23-member volunteer fire department. The department provides excellent fire protection and emergency response to the residents in Gibbons and surrounding area. They operate two fire trucks, each equipped with a 625 G.P.M. Pumper and an Emergency Rescue Unit which contains the Jaws of Life as well as medical assistance equipment.

Gibbons is served by the Morinville RCMP detachment [tel: 780-923-3320]. The Town also has Special Constables, Animal Control Officer and Citizens on Patrol to enforce Town bylaws and specific Provincial Statutes.
