Area Overview

The County of Two Hills is located in north eastern Alberta and covers roughly 2700 square kilometers. There are roughly 4500 people residing in the county, 2700 who reside rurally, and 1800 that reside in the town of Two Hills and the Villages of Derwent, Myrnam and Willingdon.

The North Saskatchewan River parallels the north border of the County, providing much of that area with valleys and rolling hills ideal for recreation.

Location

The County of Two Hills has 671,690 acres inclusive of land and water. The total assessed value for 1998 taxation purposes as determined by the annual assessment is 121,151,465. Its boundaries are defined by the County of Minburn to the south, County of Vermilion River to the east, County of Lamont to the west and partially the North Saskatechewan River to the north, with Township 56, Range 12 and part of Townships 56, Range 11 north of the river. Three bridges span the North Saskatchewan River within the County, the Duvernay Bridge, the Shandro Bridge and Myrnam Bridge, all being open bridges.

Economic Base

The County's main industry is agriculture but is supplemented by oil and gas production, manufacturing and food processing.Agriculture in the County ranges from grain and specialty crops to domestic and specialty livestock. Producers mainly grow grains such as wheat,oats, barley and canola.

Economic Facts

In the County of Two Hills there is a specialized custom feedlot enterprise called Highland Feeders Ltd. which operates 3700 acres of cultivated lands, and has a 36,000 head finishing lot. AM Sod Farms operates from Beauvallon, Alberta.Their products include Sod (large or small orders) and fertilizer for good turf establishment.Delivery Available. Call 780-366-2299

The County of Two Hills has busservices through Quality Time Tours which provides Greyhound services.The Two Hills Airport is located at Two Hills provides a non-commercial airport with a 2900ft. lite runway.

Community Lifestyle

Recreation:

• Regional golf courses include the Two Hills Lions Golf & Country Club and the Myrnam Derwent Golf & Country Club.
• Sandy Lake Park- is located 22km north east of Willingdon (3km north and 19km east).
• John Dudar Park- is located beside Jackfish lake and is 11km south west of Myrnam.
• Lac Sante- is located 22km north east of Two Hills.
• North Saskatchewan River- winds through the north end of our county and previously served as the area lifeline carrying supplies to these once remote communities.

Community Organizations:

Two Hills- over twenty five strong community organizations and service clubs work together to improve the quality of life.Some examples include the local Lions Club and the FCSS.

Two Hills health professionals consist of four doctors, one dentist and a chiropractor. There is also a massage therapist. The closest orthodontist can be accessed in Edmonton, approximately 140km west of Two Hills. The closest optometrist/ophthalmologist can be accessed in Vegreville, 50 km southwest of Two Hills. Numerous specialized medical practitioners can be accessed in Edmonton or Vegreville.
