The economy of the region is based on the "Golden Triangle" of agriculture, oil & gas, and forestry. Industrially, the Peace region is home to both the Shell In-Situ oil refinery, and the Daishowa-Marubeni International Limited, Peace River Pulp Division, pulp and paper mill.
Easy access to major transportation routes has made the Town of Peace River a thriving regional trade and service centre to northwestern Alberta. Indeed, Peace River is the second largest centre in northwestern Alberta [second only to the City of Grande Prairie], providing a wide range of services to the surrounding region. Many of the businesses related to the natural resource sector in northern Alberta centre their operations in Peace River and take advantage of the variety of services available in the community.
